How Does Level 3 Online Work at CWS?
The course is based around a fifteen-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.
The course follows a weekly structure and it is important to keep up with the work set for that week. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.
The course prepares the student for the WSET Level 3 qualification as they are guided by one of Commonwealth Wine School’s WSET educators. The student can contact the educator at any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each week includes a series of independent activities that guide the student through the key wine regions of the world looking at the factors in the vineyard and winery that influence wine styles. In addition, we will meet online as a group 5 times as the course progresses. In addition to the recommended bottles that will be used during the tasting tutorial, students are also advised to taste a range of wines during their studies on their own.
Wine Tasting:
Students will receive a list of recommended wines to purchase for themselves to use during the Live Online Meetings or while watching the recordings. Additionally, all online students will receive a referral code for a discount to purchase a Wine Tasting Kit consisting of 18 187mL bottles through Master the World. Students will practice tasting live with their instructor and submit their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator.

How Does Level 3 Online Work at CWS?
The course is based around a fifteen-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.
The course follows a weekly structure and it is important to keep up with the work set for that week. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.
The course prepares the student for the WSET Level 3 qualification as they are guided by one of Commonwealth Wine School’s WSET educators. The student can contact the educator at any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each week includes a series of independent activities that guide the student through the key wine regions of the world looking at the factors in the vineyard and winery that influence wine styles. A beginner level sake class for people working in a career in the beverage industry or anyone who has an interest to learn about sake. This qualification offers an exploration around the main styles and types of sake through sight, smell and taste to understand the key factors affecting flavors and aromas. Upon successful completion of a short exam you will receive a Digital Level 1 WSET certificate and Digital Badge

Italian Wine Essentials, taught by Jo-Ann Ross, is the creation of the Wine Scholar Guild. It includes 8 1/2 class hours over 3 sessions (including an optional exam). The 15+ wines accompany the “need to know” regions, grape varieties, and wine styles. The often complicated world of Italian wine finally becomes accessible and enjoyable. This is a passport to Italian wine and a stepping-stone to the internationally acclaimed Italian Wine Scholar, a professional certification program on the wines of Italy.
We will guide you on a wine-focused journey through Italy, learning about legendary wines, foods, landmarks and cultural attractions as you “travel.” The program has been divided into three sections, each featuring a geographical area of Italy: the wines of Northern Italy, the wines of Central Italy and the wines of Southern Italy. Within each section, a tantalizing palette of wines are showcased.

Italy is home to over 400 DOCs and DOCGs; Italian Wine Essentials introduces you to 39 of the most well-known appellations. Thirty-two primary appellations are covered in significant detail, with seven “Detour” appellations included to round out the curriculum. Grape varieties, wine profiles and labelling terms are all explored. Each wine is presented within a regional and cultural context. Local landmarks and traditional cuisines are also highlighted.

How Does Level 3 Online Work at CWS?
The course is based around a fifteen-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.
The course follows a weekly structure and it is important to keep up with the work set for that week. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.
The course prepares the student for the WSET Level 3 qualification as they are guided by one of Commonwealth Wine School’s WSET educators. The student can contact the educator at any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each week includes a series of independent activities that guide the student through the key wine regions of the world looking at the factors in the vineyard and winery that influence wine styles. In addition, we will meet online as a group 5 times as the course progresses. In addition to the recommended bottles that will be used during the tasting tutorial, students are also advised to taste a range of wines during their studies on their own.
Wine Tasting:

This unit is a thorough review of the production techniques of the major types of Fortified wines, as well as an in-depth examination of the major producing countries and regions. Assessment is a 90-minute exam combining guided tasting and short answers.

UNIT D5: FORTIFIED WINES
This unit is a thorough review of the production techniques of the major types of Fortified wines, as well as an in-depth examination of the major producing countries and regions. Assessment is a 90-minute exam combining blind tasting and short answers.
Overview:
Add an immersive, two-day in-person workshop to your WSET Diploma Unit 5 online studies. Held on Saturday and Sunday, this workshop sharpens tasting skills and exam preparedness through structured guided tastings and mock theory questions, held at our Cambridge, MA location.
What You’ll Experience
1. Guided Tasting Sessions
Conduct multiple guided tastings of a curated selection of fortified wines.
Compare key styles—Port (Ruby, Tawny, Vintage), Sherry (Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso), Madeira, vin doux naturel, and more.
Identify typical fortification techniques, aromas, sweetness levels, and fortified wine maturation profiles.
Practice WSET-style tasting notes, honing descriptors and assessment accuracy under timed conditions.
2. Mock Theory Exam Practice
Tackle a set of mock short-answer questions replicating the exam format you'll face in October 2025.
Review your answers with peers and the instructor, receiving targeted feedback to sharpen both content knowledge and exam strategy.
Focus on key topics: production methods, regional regulations, historic context, and service recommendations.
3. Expert-Led Review Sessions

Wine has been made throughout Spain dating back to the time of the Romans. The Spaniards have developed in incredible number of wines that are in stark contrast from the rest of Europe, and often these wines have the ability to age far longer than expected. In recent times, many of these wines have emerged on the international scene, however there are still quite a few that have yet to be discovered!
Join instructor John Fiola, as he explores the world of Spanish wines, including traditional regions such as Rioja and Priorat, but will also explore the up and coming regions such as Rias Baixas and beyond.

A beginner level sake class for people working in a career in the beverage industry or anyone who has an interest to learn about sake. This qualification offers an exploration around the main styles and types of sake through sight, smell and taste to understand the key factors affecting flavors and aromas. Upon successful completion of a short exam you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

The course will be based around a four-week, nine module online learning program with educator support available during this time. The course material should take about six hours in total to complete, plus revision time.

The student can contact the educator any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each module includes a series of independent activities to help students understand sake production and different styles of sake.

How does the Online Course work?
The online course is based around a six-week online program with online educator support available for this time. It features 4 live lecture and tasting webinars, recorded lectures, activities, and quizzes and can also be accessed at any time 24/7 during the 4-week session.
Each module includes a series of independent activities to help you understand wine label terminology and recognize the styles produced by the main grape varieties in key wine regions.
There is a recommendation of six hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.
Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study. While participation in the webinars is encouraged, it is NOT required, as all webinars will be recorded and posted to the Online Learning Platform.
You can contact the educator any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should you have any questions.
Each module includes a series of independent activities to help you understand the differences between grape varieties and types and styles of wine.
At the end of the course, you’ll complete a short, multiple-choice exam (see schedule above), and upon passing, will receive a Level 2 WSET certificate.
Wine Tasting:
When students choose the “With Tasting Kit” option they will receive a code for a free Wine Tasting Kit consisting of twelve 187mL bottles through Master the World ($200 value). How Does Level 3 Online Work at CWS?
The course is based around a fifteen-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.
The course follows a weekly structure and it is important to keep up with the work set for that week. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.
The course prepares the student for the WSET Level 3 qualification as they are guided by one of Commonwealth Wine School’s WSET educators. The student can contact the educator at any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each week includes a series of independent activities that guide the student through the key wine regions of the world looking at the factors in the vineyard and winery that influence wine styles. In addition, we will meet online as a group 6 times as the course progresses. We will taste through the wines in the included tasting kits during the tasting tutorial, and throughout the course. This in person Level 3 course meets over 15 Tuesdays. We feel this format gives students the best opportunity to really digest and process information—as well as practice tasting—prior to the challenging final exam.
