Our Team
Sunil Iyer, Education Director
Sunil is originally from the UK, and moved to the US in 2020, initially to California, but now lives in Chicago. Prior to teaching wine classes, he worked in Finance for many years across several continents. He has also worked in wine retail and for Silver Oak cellars.
He passed his Diploma in Wine & Spirits in 2019, achieving a Distinction and was awarded the Julian Brind prize for finishing among the top candidates globally. He also has the Winemaking Certificate from UC Davis. He graduated from Oxford University with First Class Honors.
Sunil has been teaching for Commonwealth since 2022 and in his role as Education Director welcomes the opportunity to help students gain a deeper understanding of the world of wine and spirits.
He loves a huge variety of wines, but is currently in a phase of enjoying more textured whites. In his spare time, he loves playing the piano and cycling.
