David Nied
David Nied grew up in Hawaii where he did a lot of surfing and playing soccer and never drank wine. After moving to Northern California for college, he discovered the wine country and gradually evolved from drinking Sutter Home White Zinfandel to fancy Napa cabs. He and his lovely bride (who is a certified sommelier) are now big fans of the red and white wines of Burgundy, have lived in San Francisco for the last 15 years.
As a side line to his legal career, David has freelanced hundreds of tastings, including blind tastings, for legal, corporate and private events over the last 20 years. Of late, he contracts with K&L Wine Merchant as part of its Sommelier Services program. He taught WSET classes with Grape Experience in San Francisco before it merged with Commonwealth.
David holds a Diploma from the WSET with merit and is a WSET certified educator. He won the Gerard Basset Memorial Foundation Prize and James McNie Tasting Trophy for having achieved the highest score in the world on the blind tasting portion of the D3 (still wines of the world) segment.
